Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) Activity Assay Kit (CAT#: CB-P052-K) Datasheet

Description
Superoxide dismutase (SOD) catalyzes the decomposition of superoxide free radicals and provides the first line of defense against oxygen poisoning.

In the SOD analysis kit, xanthine oxidase (XO) converts xanthine and O2 into uric acid and H2O2 to produce superoxide ions. Then, the superoxide anion converts the tetrazolium salt WST-1 into the colored product WST-1 methyl maz. Then use a standard microplate reader to measure the absorbance at 450 nm. The addition of SOD to this reaction reduces the superoxide ion level, thereby reducing the rate of formation of WST-1 formaz. The SOD activity in the experimental samples was expressed as the percentage of inhibition of the formation rate of WST-1 formazan.
