Description
The apoptotic cell isolation kit provides a simple and effective method for isolating apoptotic cells or removing dead cells from cell culture or tissue preparations using Annexin V/magnetic beads (MagBeads). Annexin V is a Ca2-dependent phospholipid binding protein with high affinity for phosphatidylserine (PS), which redistributes from the inner plasma membrane lobules to apoptotic or dead cells. Once on the cell surface, PS can be used to bind Annexin V and any of its conjugates. The binding of annexin V-biotin to apoptotic cells, and then the binding of biotin to streptavidin-MagBeads, separates apoptotic cells from living cells. Apoptotic cells bound to MagBeads adhere to the magnet, while non-apoptotic cells remain suspended. The isolated apoptotic cells and healthy cells can then be used in various assays to study the mechanisms and pathways of apoptosis. The kit has also been successfully used to remove dead cells from healthy cell cultures.
