A human melanoma-associated chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan plays a role in stabilizing cell-substratum interactions during early events of melanoma cell spreading on endothelial basement membranes. CSPG4 represents an integral membrane chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan expressed by human malignant melanoma cells.

In the process of axon regeneration, it may also inhibit the growth of neurites and the collapse of growth cones. The cell surface receptor of type 2 collagen (VI) can give cells the ability to migrate on the substrate. Through the combination of its extracellular n-terminal growth factor and extracellular matrix protease, its activity is regulated. It may regulate mpp16-dependent degradation and the invasion of type I collagen, and participate in the invasion characteristics of melanoma cells. The plasminogen system can be regulated by enhancing plasminogen activation and inhibiting angiostatin. By combining with the cytoplasmic c-terminal scaffold and signal protein, it can also be used as a signal transduction protein. Rho GTPase can be activated to promote the formation of retracted fibers and cell polarization. The signal cascade can be recruited and activated through CDC42, ACK1 and BCAR1 to stimulate -4, -1 integrin-mediated adhesion and diffusion. May activate FAK and ERK1/ERK2 signaling cascade.
