Function
Calcium-activated chloride channels (CaCC) play a role in transepithelial anion transport and smooth muscle contraction. It is necessary for the normal function of interstitial cells of Cajal (ICCs) that produce electrical pacemaker activity in the smooth muscle of the gastrointestinal tract. It is the main contributor to the basic chloride ion conductance and stimulated chloride ion conductance of airway epithelial cells, and plays an important role in the development of tracheal cartilage.
