Function
Nerve growth factor is very important for the development and maintenance of the sympathetic and sensory nervous systems. The extracellular ligands of NTRK1 and NGFR receptors activate the cell signaling cascade to regulate the proliferation, differentiation and survival of neurons. Immature NGF precursor (proNGF) acts as a ligand for the heterodimeric receptor formed by SORCS2 and NGFR, and activates cells that cause RAC1 and/or RAC2 inactivation, actin cytoskeleton reorganization, and neuronal growth cone collapse Signal cascade. Compared to mature NGF, the precursor form (proNGF) promotes neuronal apoptosis (in vitro) (similar). Inhibit metalloproteinase-dependent proteolysis of platelet glycoprotein VI. Lysophosphatidylinositol and lysophosphatidylserine bind between the two chains of the homodimer. The lipid-bound form promotes histamine re-enzyme from mast cells, in contrast to the lipid-free form (due to the similarity).
