poliovirus receptor-related 2 (herpesvirus entry mediator B)
Background
This gene encodes a single-pass type I membrane glycoprotein with two Ig-like C2-type domains and an Ig-like V-type domain. This protein is one of the plasma membrane components of adherens junctions. It also serves as an entry for certain mutant strains of herpes simplex virus and pseudorabies virus, and it is involved in cell to cell spreading of these viruses. Variations in this gene have been associated with differences in the severity of multiple sclerosis. Alternate transcriptional splice variants, encoding different isoforms, have been characterized. Function
T cell signal modulator. It can be a co-stimulator of T cell function or a co-inhibitor, depending on which receptor it binds to. After binding to CD226, it stimulates T cell proliferation and cytokine production, including IL2, IL5, IL10, IL13 and IFNG. By interacting with PVRIG, inhibit the proliferation of t cells. These interactions are competitive. It may be cell adhesion protein. (Microbial infection) The recipients are herpes simplex virus 1 (HHV-1) mutation Rid1, herpes simplex virus 1 (HHV-2) and pseudorabies virus (PRV).
