Background
This gene encodes a transmembrane glycoprotein that is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily. The encoded protein may be involved in cell growth and development by mediating interactions between the cell and extracellular matrix. A pseudogene of this gene is found on chromosome 1.

Function
By regulating the expression of the protein surface, it serves as a key regulator of cell membrane components. At the same time, it plays a regulatory role in the processes of cell migration, cell proliferation, cell contraction and cell adhesion. Reduce the expression and quantity of CAV1 by increasing lysosomal degradation to negatively regulate the formation of pits. Facilitates surface transport and lipid raft formation to carry gpi-anchored proteins (similarity). Regulate the surface expression of MHC1 and ICAM1 proteins and increase the sensitivity (through similarity) to T cell-mediated cytotoxicity. Regulate the plasma membrane expression of integrin heterodimers ITGA6-ITGB1, ITGA5-ITGB3 and ITGA5-ITGB1, leading to the regulation of cell matrix adhesion. Many processes are also regulated by PTK2. Regulate VEGF protein expression by activating PTK2, regulate vascular endothelial cell migration and angiogenesis. Regulate cell migration and cell contraction by activating PTK2 and SRC. By interacting with PTK2, it regulates adhesion density, f-actin conformation and cell adhesion ability. Positively regulate cell proliferation. Play a role in cell death and blistering. Induces VEGFA through hif1a-dependent pathways to promote angiogenesis and angiogenesis. It also plays a role in embryo implantation by regulating the surface trafficking of integrin heterodimer ITGA5-ITGB3. May play a role in glomerular filtration (similar).

Description
This is a novel IgG1 monoclonal antibody to EMP2, PG-101 treatment in the primary tumor is sufficient to reduce secondary tumor formation in triple negative breast cancer cells on the order of 1:20,000 compared to the control treated mice. PG-101 in combination with docetaxel can cure up to 80% of animals treated. This effect is lasting as these mice have shown no rebound in tumor load more than 2 months following the last treatment. Collectively, these results show that PG-101 therapy has the potential to revolutionize the outcomes for women with breast cancer.
