Related Pathways
It plays an important role in hormone and neurotransmitter calcium-dependent exocytosis and endocytosis. Part of the SNARE (Soluble NSF Attachment Receptor) complex, composed of SNAP25, STX1A and SN2, which mediates the fusion of synaptic vesicles with the presynaptic plasma membrane. STX1A and SNAP25 are located in the plasma membrane, while Vampire 2 is located in synaptic vesicles. The pairing of the three traps from the n-terminal trap motif to the c-terminal anchor site results in the formation of a trap complex, allowing the membrane to approach and finally fuse. Involved in the calcium-dependent regulation of sperm acrosome exocytosis (PubMed: 23091057). It also plays an important role (similar) in the secretion of insulin or glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1).
