CFH is the first regulatory protein of the alternative pathway of the complement system. There are three ways to activate complement. Classical, alternative and lectin activation pathways. These pathways converge to form C3/C5 invertase, producing C3a, C3b, C5a and C5b, each of which has important biological activities. Supplemental modulators are necessary to prevent the harmful production of these mediators and the potential damage to self-organization. Plasma protein CFH, C4 binding protein and cell membrane protein complement receptor 1 (CR1; CD35), decay accelerating factor (CD55) and membrane cofactor protein (CD46) are all members of the complement activation family of regulatory factors. These proteins have natural affinity for C3b and/or C4b, giving them the ability to accelerate the inherent decay of C3/C5 convertase and/or act as a cofactor factor I (CFI) for the cleavage and inactivation of C3b and C4b (i) by complement. Genetic human analysis reveals a clear association between CFH and different human diseases. These diseases include kidney disease, atypical forms of hemolytic-uremic syndrome (aHUS) and membranous proliferative glomerulonephritis (MPGN). In addition, CFH is associated with age-related macular degeneration (AMD), which is an eye disease.

For functional studies, the in vitro dilution must be optimized in the user's experimental setting.
Storage Instructions
Product should be stored at -80°C. Repeated freeze and thaw cycles will cause loss of activity. Use C5 protein within 32 hours after thawing and keep on ice. Remainder amounts should be aliquoted and immediately re-freezed for future use. Aliquots should never be thawed more than once. Under recommended storage conditions, product is stable for at least one year.
